Slovakia provides quality health care. They have several big and specialized hospitals located in major cities like Bratislava, Kosice, Martin and Banska. They also have one hospital and several health centers in each city. All in all, Slovakia has a total of 78, polyclinics, 84 hospitals, and 23 specialized institutes. The nurse per population ratio is also higher as compared to other European country. They have emergency numbers that are available for medical situation that needs urgent care. There are several pharmacies in each town and cities and is generally open from 7:30 am until 4:00 in the afternoon.

Slovakians use health insurance to pay for their healthcare. It is the obligation of each citizen to pay their medical insurance, which is being deducted from their wages. The Slovakian government pays for the citizens who are exempted from making any contribution like the unemployed, the elderly and citizens with long-term disease and disability. Not all medical expenses are covered though like for example cosmetic surgery and dental treatment. This kind of procedures the patients have to cover the full payment by themselves. They have five health insurance companies responsible for the collection of the contribution and reimbursements of benefits.

The water is fluorinated and is safe to drink, but the people in Slovakia are also very fond of bottled water. The immunization rate in this country is remarkably high which only shows how aware the Slovakians health wise. The HIV/AIDS prevalence is very low with a ration of 0.01% per 100 adult.
