Visa application requirements for Portugal

Nationals of member countries of the European Union (EU) do not need to apply for a Portuguese Visa. The European Economic Area (EEA) also extends such regulation. Portugal is one of the signatories of the Schengen Visa agreement that allows holders to travel safely within participating countries, see details below.

  • Schengen Visa (€60) – issued for nationals whose country of origin is one of the following: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. Its validity is for duration of up to 90 days.
  • Business Visa (€65) – for professionals visiting Portugal to attend seminars, conferences or self-employed people with business agendas a Business Visa is issued. It is also valid for a maximum of 90 days. A letter from employer or if self-employed, from accountant, solicitor or local chamber of commerce stating the duration and schedule of visit.
  • Tourist Visa (€65) – for tourists and other visitors whose reason is to go to various places of interest and other tourism activities. Holders of Tourist Visa are allowed to stay in Portugal for a maximum of 90 days. The following are the required documents: passport valid for 3 months longer over the validity of the visa; 1 passport-size photo; proof of visit such as ticket booking or hotel reservations; and documents to prove financial capabilities such as bank statements.
  • Work Visa - non-citizens seeking employment in Portugal should apply for this type of visa.
  • Permanent - for those who wish to live in Portugal permanently.
