You are here: Countries / Nepal

All visitors except for Indian nationals must have a passport (which must have at least six months validity) and a valid visa, which can be obtained at the Nepalese Diplomatic Missions and Consuls abroad. Visas are also available upon arrival either at the Tribhuvan Airport at Kathmandu, or at the following road borders: Nepali Birgani/Razaul Bazaar, Kakarbhitta Mahendranagar, Sunauli, Kodari checkpoint or Dhangadhi.

Children under 10 years of age require a visa but are not charged a visa fee.

There are two (2) classifications of visas available - either tourist or non-tourist.

As of September 2001, a single entry tourist visa can be obtained by paying US $30 for 60 days.

Additional fees of US $25, US $40, and US $60 if one may wish to leave and re-enter the country which corresponds to Single Re-entry, Double Re-entry and Multiple Re-entry visas respectively.

If within 150 days within the same visa year, one leaves and wishes to re-enter Nepal as a tourist the fee is US $50 for 30 days.

Tourist visa extensions cost US $50 for 30 days.

Upon recommendation of the Ministry of Industry, business visas with multiple entry facilities are worth US $100 for one year and US $250 for five years.

Non-tourist visas can either be residential visa or marriage visa.

For those who want to permanently live in Nepal, an amount somewhere around US$200 is required to be paid, then subsequent annual visa renewals cost for US$100. It works as an entry visa so you can come in and out of Nepal as you like.

A marriage visa is an option available to foreigners who are married to Nepali citizens who opts to stay in Nepal permanently without acquiring a passport, and sacrificing their original passports from which ever country they were born.

Here are some important things to remember:

1.For short visits to Kathmandu, one could opt for a free non-extendable three-day travel visa at its airport.

2.Don’t overstay your visa. Save yourself the hassle of incurring fines.

3.Always have the following with you: your passport, passport photos, visa applications, permits, and other official documents.

4.Just visit any Nepali embassies and consulates in your country.
