Acting Education in Argentina

Acting is a popular area of study in Argentina and the discipline is offered as a degree program by many of the country’s institutions of higher learning.  One such institution is John F. Kennedy Argentine University, where drama/theater is offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels, leading to Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in the discipline, respectively.

The drama faculty at John F. Kennedy Argentine University uses the drama art form as an educational pedagogy and incorporates elements of each student’s training to facilitate their social, physical, emotional and cognitive development.  It is a multifaceted and multisensory form of learning designed to help students:

  • Increase their awareness of self—their mind, body, and voice—and of others, through collegial collaboration and empathy.
  • Improve their clarity and creativity in communicating verbal and nonverbal ideas.
  • Deepen their understanding of human behavior, motivation, diversity, culture, and history.

Acting education also employs elements of theater—costumes, props, scenery, lighting, music and sound—to enrich the learning experience, re-enact stories and mount productions.  Students gain experience in the various roles of actor, director, writer, designer, and audience member.  Their education also encompasses related disciplines and art forms such as pantomime, clowning, drama games, storytelling, radio drama, melodrama, puppetry, improvisation, mask theatre, public speaking, playwriting, directing, and play productions.

Why Study Abroad in Argentina

Students who elect to study in Argentina receive a top-notch education in acting, drama and theater.  They also have the unique opportunity to study and embrace the culture of the country’s people and to learn valuable language skills that can potentially open doors someday to a number of interesting and, in many cases, lucrative career prospects.  When you’re not too busy in the classroom or on the stage, you’ll have the chance to visit all of the wonderful sites Argentina has to offer, including:

Mendoza’s Vineyards

Mendoza is often referred to as the “wine making capital” of Argentina, and like other people throughout the world, Argentines love their wine, especially the world-famous Malbecs wine, produced right here in Mendoza.  Tours of the region’s many wineries are available throughout the year by appointment, and free wine tasting events are held almost every weekend.

Quebrada de Humahuaca

If you can find the time in your busy schedule, a journey up into the colorful red rock valley known as Quebrada de Humahuaca is well worth the trip.  The region is rich in ancient Incan history and culture, and was recently named a World Heritage Site by the United Nation’s UNESCO body.  Once here you can walk the adobe-clad streets of Humahuaca, spend some time pondering the pre-Incan ruins of Pucara de Tilcara, or simply lay back and take in the view of the colorful Cerro de Siete Colores (Mountain of Seven Colors) located in Purmamarca.

Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon)

The dramatic landscape known as the Valley of the Moon dates back to the Triassic period.  The site resembles those found in Utah’s Zion National Park, with rock-formed lunar landscapes that have been carved for thousands of years by the wind and rain.  The site is also a popular place in which to spot some of Argentina’s natural wildlife, including foxes, owls, armadillos, and condors.

These are but a few of the many sights and attractions that make Argentina such a special place in which to study and live.  The country also has a number of large and very cosmopolitan cities, with many convenient and enjoyable amenities to keep you entertained when you’re not busy studying.  These amenities include trendy bars, world-class restaurants, cozy cafes and theaters, and a number of bustling nightclubs hosting revelers and keeping the party raging until dawn.  Every day is a new adventure when living in this marvelous country and the friendly people you’ll meet along the way are always happy and willing to serve as a tour guide and enhance your experience even further.
