The Bachelor of Science Degree in Conservation and Restoration Ecology is an undergraduate program that typically spans four years in duration, assuming students pursue the degree on a full-time basis.  The degree combines the study of conservation and restoration ecology to offer students a well-rounded approach to the plight of our natural resources. 
 
Conservation is the scientific discipline that seeks to conserve, maintain and renew the ecological systems that sustain life on the planet, while restoration ecology is the science and practice of ecological management with the goal of recovering, or where necessary, recreating these ecological systems that have been damaged or eliminated through overuse, neglect or disaster.  Together, these two themes represent the bulk of the coursework students will pursue during the course of the program, with the goal of becoming qualified to work in some of the career fields in which conservation and restoration projects are regularly conducted. 
 
Graduates of the program go on to fill positions such as conservation biologists, conservation planners, population ecologists, restoration ecologists and restoration technicians, or they may elect to continue their studies by pursuing an advanced degree—a degree for which the Bachelor of Science Degree in Conservation and Restoration Ecology will qualify them.

To qualify for admission into the Bachelor of Science Degree program in Conservation and Restoration Ecology students must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and have a strong background in science as demonstrated by their secondary school transcripts.  Most institutions will also require students to take a qualifying exam, either as a prerequisite for program admission or for admission into the university.
