Study in Monterrey, Mexico

Study in Monterrey, Mexico

It’s one of the best-kept commercial secrets in Mexico – the glorious, sprawling, delightful urban chaos of Monterrey. A hidden metropolis lost in the foothills of northern Mexico, Monterrey is one of the essential chambers to Mexico’s economic heart. Without the international attachments rooted in the city’s industry, it would be difficult for northern Mexico to stand up with the rest of its country. This leader in multinational corporations, however, also prides itself in leading outstanding higher education programs.

Monterrey is not, by far, the largest provider of higher education in the country. Other Mexican cities hold claim to that title. However, the city is more than capable of offering post-secondary programs. The city offers very traditional means of higher education, including universities, specialty colleges and technological institutes with glowing national reputations. Several of the universities even have nationally acclaimed programs, while others are considered some of the best in Central America.

Monterrey also offers an educational opportunity slightly different from many other institutional practices. Certain colleges will train students from a secondary to post-secondary level, meaning students could attend the same school from their young teens to mid-twenties.

Students will find Monterrey an exciting place to undergo almost any pursuit. For sightseers, the city has almost two-dozen museums focusing in history, art and culture. Touring the beautiful plazas will lead students to find cozy, authentic Mexican restaurants. For a relaxing time, individuals can attend a live music performance or take a boat cruise – and active students will find soccer games, biking trips and even a rowdy bullfighting season to keep their blood pumping.

Other issues for students to consider before studying in Monterrey include:
  • Majority of courses taught in Spanish.
  • Some institutions are religiously affiliated.

Major Fields of Study in Monterrey

Though Monterrey does provide courses in almost all general education areas, some studies enjoy more popularity and respect than others. There are several factors affecting the major fields of study in Monterrey. The rankings of certain specialty colleges, for example, make some studies (like medicine) more highly sought in Monterrey from national and international students. The amount of offered programs also results in a higher number of graduates in those fields. The major fields of study that seem most prominent in Monterrey include:
  • Industry and engineering
  • Medicine and medical studies
  • Business
