Saint Louis University - Madrid Campus is the Spanish branch of Saint Louis University. It is an American Jesuit university, established in 1818. The Madrid campus began as a study abroad program of Saint Louis University in the 1960s, and received official recognition as a university in Spain in 1996. The Madrid Campus offers the degree programs in Business Administration/International Business; Political Science/International Relations; Spanish Language and Literature; Communication; English (one semester in St. Louis, Missouri); and Economics. Furthermore, there are certificate programs provided in Ibero-American Studies and Business Administration as well as graduate degree programs: Master of Arts in Spanish and Master of Arts in English. Finally, the Madrid campus offers the opportunity for students to complete the first two years of over 85 more majors.

Study Program Details
Accounting
As part of the Department of Business and Economics, Saint Louis University-Madrid offers an accounting major, this accounting major requires 21 credits of coursework as well as “ACCT 2200: Financial Accounting” and “ACCT 2220: Accounting for Decision Making.” Offered at the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business, this accounting program provides students with a strong foundation in both professional and technical accounting. The program covers communication, problem-solving and analytical skills. Saint Louis University’s graduates have a long history of success on the CPA exam and can pursue many careers, including auditor, budget analyst, risk management consultant, financial planner or forensic accountant. In a recent survey of SLU accounting graduates, 100% of them stated they were in a graduate program or employment.

Aeronautics/Aviation Management Concentration
Saint Louis University’s Parks College, founded by Oliver Parks in 1927, is a popular venue where future leaders in the world of engineering, aviation and technology choose to pursue their degrees. Oliver Parks founded the university two months after Charles Lindbergh’s historic trans-Atlantic flight. The Aeronautics with a concentration in Aviation Management program is the first international program of its kind and requires 2 years of study in Madrid followed by 2 years in St. Louis. After 4 years, students will have specialized knowledge of the aviation industry and a strong foundation in business administration. SLU-Madrid and Parks College, St Louis undergraduate programs are accredited. Accreditation guarantees students and prospective employers that program has met stringent industry standards.

Aeronautics/Flight Science (Global Aviation option)
Saint Louis University and SLU-Madrid offer the global aviation option in aeronautics with a concentration in flight science. This original program is built to educate and instruct pilots to be qualified for minimum change between any certification standards in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It is a new enterprise and it merges the best of U.S. and European instruction and a U.S. bachelor's degree. This program is the first of its kind offered at a Jesuit university. At Saint Louis University's Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology, students learn to fly in some of the most advanced light aircraft, such as, the Diamond DA-20, the Cirrus SR20 with Garmin Perspective and the Piper Seminole with the Garmin G5 electronic flight instruments. Students also further their training in a state-of-the-art Canadair Regional Jet-200 simulator.

Aerospace Engineering
Saint Louis University’s undergraduate engineering and aviation degrees can be started on SLU's Madrid Campus before being transferred to Parks College in St. Louis to be completed. By studying for the first couple of years in Madrid, students get the opportunity to learn Spanish as a second language. Prior to starting an engineering degree, students can complete SLU-Madrid's Science and Engineering Preparation Year. This is a program of courses including physics, mathematics, English as a second language (ESL) and computer science and gives the student a foundation to work from. The Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering program begins by providing a solid foundation in the engineering sciences, such as mechanics of solids, electronics, graphics, fluid and thermal sciences and vibrations and controls. Students then go on to specialise in areas like aerodynamics, propulsion, structural design and analysis or flight mechanics. Technical options for example, helicopter theory and performance, orbital mechanics, hypersonic and flight simulation will provide more in-depth study.

Anthropology
SLU-Madrid’s Psychology, Anthropology and Sociology offers majors and interdisciplinary programs such as international studies, psychology, sociology and women's and gender studies. Students wishing to major in psychology, sociology or anthropology can start their degree in Madrid and complete it in St. Louis. Anthropology is the study of humans, early hominids and primates, such as chimpanzees. Anthropologists study human language, culture, societies, biological and material remains and the biology and behaviour of primates. The anthropology program has a holistic approach, encompassing different areas of study through biological, cross-cultural, ethnographic and sociological sources.

Arabic
Madrid is geographically and in cultural terms close to the Arabic world. In fact, Spanish contains more than two thousand words that have Arabic origin and the cultural legacy of the Arabic world is very visible, especially in Andalusia. At Saint Louis University-Madrid, you can study Al-Fusha Arabic or Modern Standard Arabic. SLU have a Language Exchange Program and this helps pupils to improve a language they’re interested in studying while teaching their native language to others that they enjoy talking to. The outcome of an effective exchange is not only language but also friendship. The languages most commonly up for exchange at SLU-Madrid are Arabic, French, German, English, Spanish and Chinese.

Art (Studio Art)
SLU-Madrid's Department of Fine and Performing Arts offers: art history, dance, music, studio and theatre as program choices. Performances, exhibits and concerts bring artists, performers and audience members together. SLU-Madrid has courses in colour theory, drawing, design and sculpture, these give students a chance to explore natural creativity. To earn a minor in studio arts, students have to complete 21 credit hours of art and art history courses. You’ll also need to take one course in art history and two studio art courses. A minor in studio art gives students the grounding and qualifications needed to work as consultants, professional artists, designers or art educators. To apply to study this minor, you must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and also complete a declaration of major/minor form, available in the Madrid Office of the Registrar.

Art History
Examining the significance of art across cultures and throughout history is the basis of art history at SLU-Madrid, you’ll explore the social, historical and cultural contexts of art. At SLU-Madrid, whether you major or minor in art history, you can complete all of your courses on the Madrid campus or choose to study for a semester in St. Louis. You will have the opportunity to apply for internships at cultural and art centres in Madrid, including Sotheby's and Christie’s auction houses. The Bachelor of Arts in Art History entails a total of 120 credit hours, 36 of the credit hours must be within the art history major and 18 must be at the 3000/4000-level. Students may not transfer more than 12 credits to fulfil individual courses or elective courses that work towards the achievement of the 36 credits required for the major in art history.

Athletic Training
Programs in health sciences at SLU-Madrid are recognized across the United States and around the world for their quality. SLU-Madrid provides students with opportunities to gain knowledge in the area of global health care. Athletic trainers are health care professionals who work with physicians to improve activity of clients, athletes and patients. The program covers management of athletic injury, injury prevention, injury assessment, rehabilitation, administrative duties and professional development. The Athletic Training program provides the opportunity to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Master of Athletic Training degree, this is achieved through two years of study at SLU-Madrid and followed by three years of study at the St. Louis campus.

Biology
SLU-Madrid’s Department of Natural Sciences is dedicated to nurturing scientific literacy and training students in scientific learning and research techniques. Biologists study the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution and distribution of living organisms. If you begin the biology program in Madrid, you will be required to transfer to St. Louis to complete it. Dance
Students learn and perform the rich fields of Latin and Spanish dance at SLU-Madrid. Collectively, dances that come from the Caribbean are known as Latin dance. Examples are: Salsa cubana, salsa en línea, cha cha chá, cumbia, bachata, merengue and bolero. SLU-Madrid also offers the dance that is more generally thought of as a ballroom dance, Argentine tango. Flamenco is an illustration of Spanish popular culture that is centuries old, it was derived from blending Andalusian folk dancing and choreographic features from the Roma community that had settled in Southern Spain. It is distinguished by the rhythmic movements of the dancer together with the music. Flamenco is an old expression of Spanish popular culture, like other cultural expressions, it’s been changed and revitalized by the influences coming from pop and jazz music.

English as a second language
SLU-Madrid's Academic English Program is the most rigorous and comprehensive academic English and TOEFL preparation course in Madrid. This program gets students ready for universities around the world where the language of tuition is English. SLU offers 19 hrs of classes per week for 12 weeks. Also, credits may be eligible to count towards an American Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts. Scholars must meet the SLU’s undergraduate admissions conditions to be entitled to apply for the program. Application is directly through SLU-Madrid's admissions office. If students are eligible for the program, they will be asked to attend campus to write an academic essay. If they are not able to visit SLU-Madrid, they may send an essay to the Academic English Program Director.

Entrepreneurship
Saint Louis University-Madrid's undergraduate major in entrepreneurship brings together the classroom and the real world. Students have access to world-class resources hosted at the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business, including Chaifetz Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Billiken Angels Network, which sometimes fund student start-ups. The SLU Entrepreneurs' Club is an organization run by students that connects them to entrepreneurship opportunities outside their classrooms. French studies at SLU-Madrid offers thrilling opportunities to learn another Romance language as well as Spanish. Students will be able to communicate with French speakers on campus and visit nearby France where they will be able to put what they've learnt into practice. SLU-Madrid offers: FREN 1010: Elementary French I, FREN 1150: Elementary French II and FREN 2100: Intermediate French I. When applying for jobs, having a legitimate certificate to verify the level of your language skills is important more than ever because university courses (even majors) are not always accepted as valid proof of language level. We urge students of French to take the DELF, the official language exam to certify the skills they achieve.

Greek (Ancient)
Traditional authors established their ideas and hypotheses in classical Greek or Latin and are thought of as the forerunners of Western culture in many areas: philosophy, natural sciences, theatre, art, literature, mathematics and astronomy. The Gospels were written in Greek and then translated into Latin. Western philosophy is founded on the workings of philosophers like Plato and Aristotle. Unless you know the Greek and Roman myths it is almost impossible to comprehend much of Western art. Studying Greek is critical for a deeper understanding of all Romance languages, it also contributes to a better grasp of English.

Health Care Ethics

As part of SLU’s Honours Program students, that are eligible, are able to develop an individual course of study that supplements their undergraduate major, earning an honours degree in that discipline. Undergraduates from any of the schools and colleges at Saint Louis University are eligible for the Honours Program. Complete the program and students earn an Honours BA or Honours BS degree in their discipline, a higher distinction than the traditional grade point average awards: summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude. Students are invited to apply to the Honours Program before their first term and it is based on test score results. Ibero-American Studies
The Ibero-American studies minor is offered at Saint Louis University's campus in Madrid and is created for students who want to enrich their undergraduate degree with a multi-disciplinary instruction of the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world. A total of six classes in economics, sociology, history, political science, Spanish and Latin American literature, and Portuguese are required for the Ibero-American Studies Program. Information Technology Management

Leadership and human resource management concentrates on the organizational and human facets of the workplace. As well as human resources and organizational behaviour courses, students select from other courses offered via the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business, including organizational failure, change and transformation and fundamentals of leadership. At SLU a major in leadership and human resource management will take 18 required credit hours. Students can complete the first two years of the B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at SLU-Madrid before relocating to the St. Louis campus for the last two years of study. SLU-Madrid’s minor in Middle East studies tackles many historical and modern issues related to the Middle East. Through the Middle East studies program students gain a more profound understanding of this key area of the world, enhancing other areas of study like history, political science or business. SLU’s Middle East studies minor requires at least 16 credit hours, including two semesters of university-level Arabic however, this does not apply to native speakers of Arabic or other Middle Eastern language, such Farsi, Kurdish, Turkish or Hebrew. In these cases, students take an extra three credit hour elective from the list of approved courses. The remaining credit hours will be made up of options that permit you to adapt the minor to your own interests and boost the other international programs offered at SLU.

Modern Languages and Intercultural Communication
Saint Louis University’s modern languages and intercultural communication minor concentrates on foreign languages in the situation of communication among people from diverse cultures. SLU’s Music Program offers classes in music history and theory, as well as instrumental lessons in guitar, piano and voice. Performing Arts
Saint Louis University-Madrid offers students the chance to widen their skills in the disciplines of dance, music or theatre through SLU’s minor in performing arts. Portuguese
For Spanish speakers, learning Portuguese is pretty easy. Both sister languages possess Latin roots. Students learning Portuguese whilst perfecting their Spanish will learn to speak both of the main languages of Latin America. Portuguese is the sixth most commonly spoken language. Studying Portuguese in Madrid is an appealing option, as you are so close to Portugal. SLU also offer an exchange program with the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC) in Brazil. Every semester, the exchange program organises weekly talks between students of Portuguese and Portuguese native speakers on campus. These are relaxed chats, where pupils can practice what they have learned in class and at the same time making new friends. When completing a job application, having an official certificate to verify the level of your language skills is very important because university courses, even majors, are not accepted on their own as valid proof of someone’s language level.

Pre-Medicine
The Department of Health Sciences, Nursing and Public Health has a pre-med track entrenched in the health science coursework. Students will need to transfer to St Louis after the second year if they want to complete the health science program with a pre-med concentration in four years. However, the pre-med track coursework can be completed solely at SLU-Madrid if it is combined with a non-health science major, like psychology. Health professions schools need students applying for their courses, to have completed the pre-med curriculum prior to application. The SLU pre-med track meets the entrance criteria for most of these schools in the US. Health professions schools highly regard wide general training at undergraduate level. In SLU’s Theatre Program, students work together as a theatrical company, promoting commitment to the group whilst building up individual skillsets in design, direction, performance and management. Every semester, the Theatre Program produces a live drama, with students being involved both on stage and backstage. The Theatre Program’s productions will challenge students to consider diverse viewpoints, values and expressions of the creativity, whilst providing them with a chance to discover and practice theatre protocol and craft in a collective atmosphere. Apart from production, SLU-Madrid’s acting courses convey skills that are useful in non-theatrical surroundings where presentation skills are important. The University’s playscript analysis course teaches students how to read a play and identify all of its theatrical possibilities.
