Omsk State Pedagogical University (OSPU) in Russia was founded in 1932.  The school plays a major leadership role among the pedagogical universities in the West Siberian region, serving as the leader in training professionals in the field of education (and other fields).

About Omsk State Pedagogical University

The primary mission of Omsk State Pedagogical University is the preservation and multiplication of intellectual values—in receiving and disseminating modern knowledge and information in the process of educating the future teachers of Siberia.  The institution accomplishes this mission by integrating its curricula, conducting scientific research and by implementing innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

According to data collected through the annual monitoring of the Higher Education Institutions in the country, Omsk State Pedagogical University has been ranked among the 30 best pedagogical and linguistic Universities in the Russian Federation over the past five years.

Omsk State Pedagogical University specializes in Russian-language graduate programs, and both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the fields of Education, Psychology, Economics, Law, Environmental Sciences and Management, Foreign Languages Mathematics, Physics and Information Technology.

Students and Faculty

Omsk State Pedagogical University currently plays host to over 11,000 students, including about 500 international students studying abroad. This includes students who are enrolled in full-time and part time studies, as well as correspondence courses. The University uses the most up-to-date teaching techniques, including the elements of distance learning—making it increasingly more convenient for busy professionals to earn their degree.

Together with its ultra-modern facilities, the faculty of OSPU ensures a high level of training and a quality educational program. More than 600 professors are employed by the university, spread out over 41 departments, giving the university a very low student/faculty ratio of 10:1.  Over half of the faculty at Omsk State Pedagogical University’s possesses a PhD degree, while the remaining professors hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in a variety of different disciplines.

Facilities at Omsk State Pedagogical University

The facilities at Omsk State Pedagogical University are set up to ensure student success.  In addition to the school’s many classrooms and the centralized administration center, these facilities include:

  • OSPU Library.  With over 700,000 books, journals and other materials, the OSPU library has all the information students need to be successful.  The library houses six distinct reading halls, all of which are equipped with computers linked to the library’s high-speed Internet.
  • Publishing House.  The publishing house was created to facilitate students and faculty in publishing various papers, books and research studies.
  • Computer Lab.  The computer lab is equipped with all of the latest gadgets and state-of-the-art technology.
  • Laboratories.  As a research university, Omsk State Pedagogical University is home to several laboratories where students and faculty work together to conduct scientific research.
  • Career Center.  Since 2001, the Career Agency known as “Zolotoi Fond” has been functioning at OSPU to assist students and alumni in finding employment, mainly in the education sector.  

Information for International Students

In accordance with the goals of Russian higher education the development of international cooperation is one of the top priorities at Omsk State Pedagogical University.  As a result, in 1999 the university opened its Office of International Cooperation. Within the framework of international cooperation, Omsk State Pedagogical University is (and has been) an active participant in international projects, working with different overseas organizations and several universities in the countries of Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Belgium, Hungary and more.

As a result of such cooperation the French and German Resource Centers were recently established at OSPU. Owing to the work of the resource centers, the OSPU students and faculty now have access to modern literature written in French and German, as well as to information concerning the study and research in foreign countries, and the scholarships and grants offered by overseas foundations.

Each year, an increasing number of professors, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students participate in the exchange programs offered by various organizations, including the German Academic Exchange Service known as DAAD, the Austrian Exchange Service (OAD), the A. Humboldt Fund, the Council of Europe, the Government of France, and the Federal Agency for Education of the Russian Federation. In reciprocation, OSPU welcomes multitudes of overseas students, lecturers and researchers to its facilities, including those who arranged their study/teaching abroad experience within the framework of the Federal Agency for Education Scholarship.

Omsk State Pedagogical University has 15 years of experience in training professionals from foreign countries. Students from the USA, France, Germany, Austria, Australia, India, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Mongolia, the United Kingdom, Japan and China have all chosen OSPU over the years as their study abroad destination, including many who come specifically to study Russian as a Second Language.
