Visa application requirements for Holy See (Vatican City State)

The Vatican does not require its own visa even if it is an independent city state. The visa that one will need to gain entrance is the Italian visa. It will be your entry ticket to Rome since you will have to go through the Italian borders before you can get to the Vatican.

The Vatican provides free access to only certain areas such as St. Peter’s Church, St. Peter’s Square, the Vatican Museum and the Vatican Gardens. If your destination is somewhere else within the vicinity, you will need special permission to gain access to those areas.

Of course, for an individual to apply for the visa you must have a current valid passport that still have blank pages on them. If you are a citizen of the European Union, then you will not need a visa. All you need is to prepare your passport. There are also other citizens of other countries who are not required to get a visa to travel to Italy. You must check before you go through all the trouble of getting one. If you do need to acquire one, then you must fill up the application form and have it signed by the Italian Consulate.

You must also provide a statement that tells them that you will be able to provide for your trip and other needs during your stay there. Aside from that, you must present your flight tickets that tell them that it is a roundtrip ticket. This will ensure the Italian government that you do not wish to be a burden, but a tourist who wants to see the beautiful sites of Italy and the Vatican.
