Visa application requirements for Uruguay

The general visa requirements are the following: one completely filled up application form must be submitted along with passport valid for at least three months before the intended date to leave the country; two passport size photographs; a certification and copy of the applicant’s health insurance coverage; and a copy of a current account’s bank statement. For tourists or visitors, a copy and proof of hotel booking and or an airline reservation including an onward or return ticket will be required. For overseas workers or students a reference letter from the employer or educational institution should be presented. Those applying for residency must go to the immigration office and submit proof of either property ownership in the country or bank account containing the minimum required amount; no police record, proof of income or work permit and all documents must be properly notarized. Business visas can also be availed.

For citizens of the Canada, Australia, New Zealand and European Union countries only a valid passport is required and they can stay in the country for 90 days without the need for a visa. Citizens of most but not all of the member states of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) are also exempted from obtaining tourist or business visas. These FTAA countries include Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, United States, Panama, Peru, Paraguay, Honduras, Mexico Jamaica and Nicaragua.
