The major gateway in Uruguay is the Montevideo Carrasco Airport. This is where the majority of the tourists lands to visit Uruguay. Taking the bus is the most available option when you want to get around. COPSA and COT are the main bus service operators in Uruguay. They provide services from Montivideo to other cities and even to smaller towns. Travelers need not to worry about going around in the city as taxis are always available.

Always try to remember that driving is on the right side and wearing a seat belt is mandatory. Young children, especially those under 12, are not allowed to sit in front. Another important law in this country is that no one is allowed to use the cellular phones while driving. Maintaining the road safe is the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation. The Ministry of Interior Highway Police is the organization responsible for traffic safety.

Uruguay’s medical facilities are satisfactory but serious medical conditions are often dealt with in the United States. Both public and private hospitals are available for emergency medical service and this is usually free in public hospitals but long-time stay required some fee depending on the type of medical service required. Pharmacies are available throughout the country.

Uruguay has a highly-publicized emergency preparedness test. They have at least 400 members in the response team. The main purpose of this exercise is to test the potency of the guidelines and course action set by different organization and government agencies against any national emergency.
