The Weather and Climate in Uruguay

You are here: Countries / Uruguay

Uruguay is located on the temperate zone climate which is the main reason why this country enjoys a climate that is warm. The weather in Uruguay is very similar to the weather in the Pampas region of Argentina.

Summer is from December to March with a temperature between 21˚C to 28˚C and winter is from the months of June to September. The temperature during winter rarely falls below 0˚C, averaging between 10˚C and 16˚C, and a snowfall is unheard of. The wettest months in Uruguay are usually from March to June and the rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the country and has a yearly average of 1000 millimeter.

Uruguayans sometimes do experience sudden changes in weather and it is mainly because the country is not surrounded by mountains that could function as a weather barrier. The country is not also spared from droughts and occasional floods. Pampero, a cold and violent wind, is sometimes present also.

Since Uruguay is famous for its pristine beaches, the best season to explore Uruguay is of course during the summer season. During the summer season, the sun shines at least nine to ten hours each day. Light clothing is recommended during the summer season while medium clothing is recommended during winter months. Do not forget to bring an umbrella if you are planning to visit during the rainy season. With its constant temperature and mild summer heat, the climate in Uruguay is very ideal and comfortable all throughout the year.
