Health has been a major factor deeply observed and improved in the country. People in Taiwan have health benefits, hospitals are well-updated, and physicians are truly competitive. The healthcare in Taiwan is directed by the Department of Health of the Executive Yuan. Giving importance on health and health problems have made the country, especially the healthcare facilitators, aware of the widespread new diseases which give information on new techniques and preventive measures and equipments to be incorporated.

The total expenditures per capita on health were US$752 in 2000. In 2009, about 5.8% of the GDP is allotted for health expenditures. Life expectancy as of 2009 was 78 years.

National Health Insurance (NHI) is the current health care system of Taiwan. It is a single-payer compulsory plan with benefits such as disbursement health-related funds. The NHI comprises of advantages for the patients; offered to all citizens of the country.

Tourists are advised to have themselves vaccinated first before entering the country. In order to prevent garnering or spreading inevitable diseases especially from infected areas, travellers in the country must prepare their certificates especially for yellow fever. Extra caution in eating must also be observed. Typhoid and hepatitis can also be avoided; with being extra careful on food intakes. Drinking water is advised to be bottled. Widespread dengue fever can be prevented; travellers are advised to apply repellents and other measures to avoid mosquito bites. In eating food in restaurants or other food stands or chains, vigilance in choosing food is also advised due to some instances possible to occur, such as food poisoning.
