Visa application requirements for Suriname

You are here: Countries / Suriname

A Suriname visa is an endorsement stamped by officials of the country on the passport to allow the bearer to visit the country for a 6-month validity. This is obtained from the Embassy or consulates of Suriname specifically for the visit. In most cases, officials require that the visa must be obtained prior to the arrival in the country, with the passport, a valid visa and a return ticket as the common entry requirements.

The common types of visa are the tourist, business, diplomatic, official or service, and student visas. To obtain a tourist and business visa, certain requirements are to be met, such as  valid passport with at least six months validity remaining, a fully accomplished application form, a passport size photograph, copy of onward or return ticket or confirmed itinerary, copy of resident alien card, or Green Card, and proof of funds and hotel reservation. The most common type of visa for touring the country is the multiple-entry tourist visa which is valid up to 12 months. The business visa requires a letter from the sponsoring company, which must specify the reasons for the visit, or a letter of invitation from the host company in the country. Visa, passport, and return ticket are required of the citizens of Britain, Australia, Canada, United States, other European Union countries, and Japan to enter Suriname but those not included in the list are required to contact the Embassy to check the requirements for visa. Persons intending to stay longer than three months are required to apply for authorization for temporary stay prior to their travel to the country. Travelers from Guyana, French Guiana and Brazil, are required to show proof of a yellow fever vaccination to be able to gain entry into Suriname.
