Sudan is located in Northeastern Africa. The Anglo-Egyptian Agreement of January 19, 1899 establishes the parallel of 22˚North as the international boundary between Sudan and Egypt, which borders Sudan to the north. The other borders include the Red Sea to the northeast, Eritrea and Ethiopia to the east, Kenya, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the south.

Sudan is not a major tourist location in the world but its attractions are worth visiting by any traveler. Khartoum, the capital city, is one such site. Located at the meeting point of the White Nile and the Blue Nile river tributaries, it boasts of the National of Sudan, the Palace and Ethrographical Museums, Botanical Gardens, the St. Mathews Catholic Church, mosques and the War Cemetery.

The largest city in the country is Omdurman on the western banks of the Nile River. It is the national center of commerce and, partnered with Khartoum it forms the industrial and cultural heart of Sudan. On the eastern bank of the Nile River 200 kilometers north of Khartoum, one can find the ancient city of Meroe, which is dotted with 200m man-made pyramids, and houses the Temple of the God Amun.

Port Sudan, the capital city of the Red Sea state, is used as exit point to cross Red Sea on the way to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. It boasts of a coast which is the area’s major attraction. If you visit Southern Sudan, you will find its capital Juba, the site of the first civil war in 1956-1972 staged by soldiers against an agreement that would add the region as part of Uganda, and the Jebel Marra, west of Sudan, which has the highest mountain range at 10,000 feet above sea level.
