You are here: Countries / Netherlands

Going to and getting around the Netherlands is very easy as there are numbers of ways on how to get yourself transported to and around the country. There are airports, railways, buses and other public transportation systems available. However, it is said that the country’s highways are so much prone to traffic jams and is very much dense as there are no available alternate routes than the highway itself. On a lighter note though, the country has special bicycle lanes and stoplights (in some cities) where people can just cycle and not bother themselves from the hassle that the traffic jam brings. Many citizens and some visitors say that it is better to get around the country’s cities using a bicycle to avoid heavy traffic, and appreciate more the beauty of the Netherlands.

Their rail transport is mainly operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen. Their Metros and Trams (Light Rail system) operate from 6 o’clock in the morning until 12 midnight. These public transportation vehicles, together with the city and regional buses, follow the National Tariff System. This is with the exception of neighborhood buses and night buses where fares vary. Neighborhood buses are those vans which can accommodate 8 persons driven mostly by the place’s elderly volunteers. These are still operated by the same companies operating the city buses though they do not follow the National Tariff System. On the other hand, the regional and city buses operate almost everywhere in the country, especially in those areas where rail transport is not available.
