Religious beliefs in Myanmar (Burma)
Myanmar religion is one of the most interesting things that one should learn about the country, especially if you want to be in this country for a vacation or for long-term. It is amazing that this beautiful country with 45 million populations is also divided into many religions and sects. Although, there is no law controlling any tourist to celebrate or join with any of the religion prevailing in the area he or she is vacationing at, it will be very beneficial if one is properly knowledgeable of what to do and what not to do when in this country.
The biggest chunk of Burma population still believes in Buddhism. This prevailing Myanmar religion gets 89.20 %. The rest of the population is now divided across many other known religions in Myanmar like Christianity, Muslims, Hindus, and Animism. Christians has the biggest chunk of the minority, getting 5.05 %. Muslims then gets the next with 3.78 %, Hindus with 0.55 % of the total population, and Animism getting 1.27 %. Aside from these prevailing religions, there are still more minor religions that are still growing and blossoming as years takes toll on Myanmar locals.
Bahai Sikhs, Lipian fujianhal, Chinese, and other Myanmar religion and sects then gets the remaining 0.61% of the total population of Myanmar. With these many religions you are about to witness in the country, it is a must that you at least come to know about it. That way, you will not be taken aback of the many different beliefs that you will witness.
