The Weather and Climate in Jordan

Amman, the capital of Jordan has a pleasantly temperate climate. When summer hits, it is dry and hot but evenings are cold—the overall temperature remains at comfortable level though. In winter, it's cold and wet as rainfalls come in October and March. Snow follows.

Petra, considered one of the new Seven Wonders of the World has a desert climate which means a hot weather in summer (temperature level as high as 93°F (34°C), around June and September. The months of December to March are the cold months of winter in Petra and with most of Jordan. Travelers who want to enjoy and take delight in the vibrant sites of Jordan are advised to visit in spring and autumn since the weather is temperate and satisfactory.

In general, July and August are the driest and hottest months of Jordan in a year, specifically in the Jordan Valley. Noticeably, the climate and weather changes in Jordan can be sort of extreme as November to April means snow, rain, and wind. Overall, there is little annual rainfall in the entire country and still, the 75% of Jordan is still experiencing the desert climate. In the Eastern Desert, winter season is described as extremely cold while summer is completely sizzling.

To cope with Jordan's generally extreme climate conditions, lightweight clothes should be worn between May and September. Winter clothes should be ready when the chilly winter comes. Rainwear should come in handy by November to April.
