You are here: Countries / Finland

Finland has often been hailed as having one of the most successful education systems. In the last international education league tables, produced by the OECD, Finland's 15 year olds were judged to have the highest standards of literacy in the world.

The first nine years of education (primary and secondary school) are compulsory and there are no tuition fees for full-time students. After primary school, a student can choose between the the vocational and academic systems.

The higher education system comprises universities and polytechnics. High quality, cost-effective programs of study are available for foreign students who want to study in Finland. The country is one of the most popular study destinations in the world. International students make up 5% of the total population at higher education institutions. Architecture, art & design, environmental science, and technology & communications are some of the subjects that Finland is known for.
