Denmark is one of the three Scandinavian countries. The mainland is located north of its only land neighbour, Germany, southwest of Sweden, and south of Norway. Denmark also encompasses two off-shore territories, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, granted home rule in 1979 and 1948 respectively.

Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and its largest city. Copenhagen has been ranked as one of the world's best cities to live in, despite the high cost of living. It is also known as a 24-hour party city. For free entertainment one can stroll along Strøget, especially between Nytorv and Højbro Plads, which in the late afternoon and evening has musicians, magicians, jugglers and other street performers.

Århus, is the second largest city and the principal port of Denmark situated on the peninsula of Jutland. Aarhus is the seat of the council of Aarhus municipality and unofficially called the "Capital of Jutland". Aarhus is a center for education on the peninsula of Jutland and large influx of young people and students creates a natural base for cultural activities. Each year the town hosts several festivals and concerts including Aarhus International Jazz Festival and Aarhus Festuge the biggest festival in Scandinavia.
