Denmark

You are here: Countries / Denmark

This small, quiet Scandinavian country is renowned for its cozy, period atmosphere, nifty design sensibilities, ultra-liberal social attitudes and commitment to freedom of speech. Despite what Shakespeare may have said, there is nothing really rotten in the state of Denmark.

Besides the mainland, Denmark also consists of a large peninsula, Jutland, which borders northern Germany and many islands, most notably Zealand, Funen, Vendsyssel-Thy, Lolland and Bornholm as well as hundreds of minor islands often referred to as the Danish Archipelago. A major north European power, Denmark is a modern and prosperous nation with significant participation in European trade and politics. A founding member of NATO, Denmark has also has been a member of the European Union since joining the European Economic Community in 1973.

The capital of Denmark is Copenhagen, which is the seat of the national parliament, the government, and the monarchy. A beautiful city located on the eastern shore of the island of Zealand, Copenhagen consists of old-style, two-story buildings and is vibrant with cultural and entertainment options.
