The Weather and Climate in Brunei Darussalam

You are here: Countries / Brunei Darussalam

Since Brunei Darussalam is situated near the equator, the country experiences a tropical rainforest climate with temperatures within the range of 23oC to 32oC.  Throughout the year, humidity is high at an average estimate of 80 percent which makes it very uncomfortable.  There are only two seasons in Brunei which are summer and rainy seasons.

Rainfall in Brunei is generally high which averages at 320cm annually and there is heavy rainfall during the monsoon seasons.  Interestingly unique in the Southeast Asian region, there are two monsoon seasons, from November to December and from May to July.  Usually, rain showers are short-lived, but, they tend to be heavy.  You can experience dry months from February to April.  During this time, it gets very hot and dry.

It has been reported that Brunei’s highest temperature has reached a scorching 40 o C during summer.  It might not be a good idea to visit Brunei during its sweat-inducing months or when heavy rains are pouring.

The changes in the climate occur mostly from the influence of the monsoon winds but there are no drastic changes in temperature during the year.  Most of the time, the climate is uniform.  Typically, when it is not raining, you will experience a very humid and hot day and night.

Overall, Brunei’s climate is very much livable.   Basically, one has to prepare for the rainy seasons rather than the summer.  Compared to the other countries in the Southeast region, Brunei has a more moderate temperature on average.
